The

Antologías

are ideal for supporting

reading in the classroom, whether as shared,

guided, or independent reading.

The

Antologías

are also flexible enough

to use at home by parents as a stand-alone

reading companion. The

Annotated Edition

contains point-of-use teaching suggestions

and answer keys, and comes with an

Audio CD

of the reading selections as well

as the

Comprendo lo que leí

activities.

A student

ebook

version is also available.

How to Use the

Antología

Antes de leer

This section is comprised of guided

questions that help connect students to prior

knowledge they may have about the subject

or theme. The

Annotated Edition

includes

teacher/parent prompts to further enhance

the guided questions. These prompts can

be used in conjunction with pre-reading

strategies—such as previewing, KWL charts,

and brainstorming—to help prepare students

for the reading selection.

A number of vocabulary words are

highlighted in each selection. These words

can be introduced to students before

they start reading to ensure a better

understanding of the selection. A glossary

of the highlighted vocabulary can be found

at the end of the book.

Descubre el español con Santillana

is a comprehensive program designed

to teach Spanish as a world language in

elementary school classrooms. Created

with teacher flexibility in mind, the

program can be used in a FLES setting,

or it can be used to support FLEX or

Dual-Language instruction.

The

Antologías

are an integral part of the

Descubre el español con Santillana

program.

They are a collection of authentic grade-

appropriate literature, thematically correlated

to each unit of the student book. There is

one

Antología

per grade, for

grades 1 to 5.

Each unit in the

Antología

includes

three readings from different genres to

accommodate the needs of students of

Spanish, as well as heritage speakers, who

generally have a stronger command of

vocabulary than beginning FLES students.

The readings are divided into three

categories:

Beginner

,

Intermediate

,

and

Advanced

.

Each reading includes appropriate

pre- and post-reading activities designed

to help support the literacy skills taught

in

Descubre el español con Santillana

,

including accessing prior knowledge,

vocabulary, phonics, reading fluency, reading

comprehension, spelling, and writing.
